It IS TURKEY TIME!!!

I love my team! I know I've said that before, but it is true. Each member is always ready and willing to share new ideas that they come up with or find! My team leader Marna found this great Patten Turkey Tail idea from a great 1st Grade Blog!

The First Grade Parade is a blog written by a First Grade Teacher, Mrs. Carroll. She has tons of really wonderful teaching ideas.
We tried the pattern turkey tails in my class. It was quite an experience and didn't turn out quite like I thought, but I think my kiddos did a REALLY great job. It was a learning experience for me as well, but we all had a lot of fun. Here are a couple of examples of their excellent work.

Noun Neighborhood

Grammar can be very difficult for a first grader. A fun way to learn about nouns if by making a neighborhood full of persons, places, and things. This lets the student relate it back to their own reality. They really enjoy illustrating all of the landmarks you would find in a community. Ours turned out really great!

Character Dress Up Day

So this is very late, but I still wanted to post all the fun that we had during National Red Ribbon Week. The last week in October is Red Ribbon Week all across the nation. The students and teachers all pledge to be drug free. We always end the week with our "Show your Character, Don't do Drugs" day. The students (and teachers of course) dress up like their favorite book character, and we have a parade for everyone that dresses up to walk in. The kids really love it, and so do the teachers. I know I look forward to it each year.

My class and I all dressed up at the Moose from If you give a Moose a Muffin They all looked so great! One of my little friends brought her moose with her so we made it a photo opt.

FUN in the Fall!!!

I have really been slacking at adding the WONDERFUL things my class has been doing. Very sorry!

My class has been doing lots of GREAT learning with a Fall theme behind it. I have been trying to add the holidays into the curriculum as much as I can. Luckily I have the greatest 1st Grade team to work and share with, which helps SO much!

My class made these awesome Abstract Pumpkins in October. We were learning about 2D shapes. They counted the triangles they used and the squares they used to fill out the cloze.

They did an AWESOME job! I was very impressed!

There will be MORE on the way later this afternoon!!!
